A message from the Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society
“Last year we had to abandon our Spring musical “The Music Man” due to lack of funding and membership. We used these months to fundraise with the help of the local community and to recruit new members. Last August, under the direction of Lynda O’Neill, we performed Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa to packed audiences every night in Portmarnock Leisure Centre. This was followed by our annual Winter Concert in November in the Grand Hotel. In February 2011, we took the stage once again in the Irish Premiere of The Australian version of The Pirates of Penzance. Directed by Lynda O’Neill , Musical director Graham Walsh and Choreographed by Denise Donohue this show was a wonderful success. Staged in Scoil Iosa Hall Malahide, we performed for five nights and recieved a full standing ovation every night.”
“We recently received word that as a result of our performance Malahide Musical Society has been nominated for three awards at the annual A.I.M.S. (Association of Irish Musical Societies) award ceremony this June . We have successfully been nominated for Best Overall Show, Best Choral Performance and Dave Latham (who played the Pirate King) has been nominated for best comedic performance. We are absolutely thrilled to receive any nomination but receive three is just fantastic. There is a strong contingent heading to the awards ceremony in Killarney at the end of June and we have our fingers crossed that we might take home a prize or two… We’d like to thank the local community for their continued support. To all that came to see our show, and to those that helped us with advertising and sponsorship we are extremely grateful. Without this support it would impossible to stage a production of this scale.”
“Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society is a long running society and we hope that you our sponsors and audiences will continue to support us in our next endeavour details of which will be announced shortly. M.M.D.S. is your local musical society and we are always open to new members (particularly men ). It is a brilliant outlet for all ages and a fantastic opportunity to mix with others members of your local community. Meanwhile we have our fingers crossed for Killarney. “
